The La Cienega Design Quarter (LCDQ) presents “Legends 2018”, a 3-day celebration of design that brings together thousands of people from the interior design, decor, art, fashion, and architecture fields. The “Legends” event features more than 40+ receptions, keynote panels, forums, parties, personal appearances and numerous other opportunities for people to see and engage in dialog about design. This year the LCDQ celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Legends event with the theme “Today’s Vision, Tomorrow’s Home”. The theme will be expressed in the 50+ window displays of the member LCDQ shops, showrooms, and galleries in the La Cienega Design Quarter. The Hammer Museum presents “Stories of Almost Everyone”, an exhibit about the willingness to believe the stories that are conveyed by works of contemporary art. The Broad’s exhibit of “Jasper Johns: Something Resembling Truth” features more than 120 extraordinary paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings by one of America’s greatest artists. Highlighting signature works from the Broad collection with loans from more than 50 international public and private collections, The Broad’s presentation marks the first comprehensive survey of Jasper Johns in Southern California in more than 50 years. A collaboration with the Royal Academy in London, Jasper Johns: ‘Something Resembling Truth’ traces the evolution of the artist’s six-decade career through a series of thematic chapters, encompassing the full range of Johns’ materials, motifs and techniques. The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) of Los Angeles presents “Real Worlds: Brassai, Arbus, Goldin”, an exhibit that brings together the works of there of the most influential photographers of modern life. Drawn largely from the MOCA’s collection of photography, the exhibition provides remarkable opportunities to explore the ways in which Brassaï, Diane Arbus, and Nan Goldin use the camera to reflect and transform the world around them. “Real Worlds” features approximately one hundred works by the three artists, including Brassaï’s unforgettable images of the nocturnal denizens of Paris, Arbus’s most memorable and unsettling portraits, and Goldin’s searingly poignant documentation of herself and her community. Butterflies are taking flight at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles! Museum visitors can get up close to beautiful butterflies in the new Butterfly Pavilion. The MOCA at the Pacific Design Center presents “Welcome to the Dollhouse” a selection of works from their permanent collection that address, document, or deconstruct notions of domesticity. The exhibition examines a variety of approaches to the idea of the domestic, including the merging of art and design, documentary portrayals of domestic spaces, melancholic and romantic depictions of the home, and the repurposing of familiar household objects and their representations. “Painted in Mexico, 1700-1790: Pinxit Mexico” is on display at the LACMA until March 18, 2018. The groundbreaking exhibition is devoted to 18th-century Mexican paintings, a period marked by stylistic developments and new iconographies. With over 100 works, the exhibition will make a lasting contribution to our understanding of Mexican paintings. The exhibit represents the first and most serious effort to reposition the history of the 18th century painting in Mexico.
